SOUTHERN CROSS BARRISTER
Simon graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in September 2005. He was admitted to the Bar in February 2006, and in May 2010 graduated with a Master of Laws (Honours) from the University of Auckland.
Initially, Simon worked for a medium-sized civil litigation firm specialising in building and construction law. He later moved to the Auckland office of an international insurance law firm. There, Simon advised insurers on policy coverage and defended professional indemnity and public liability claims against various types of professionals, including insurance brokers, solicitors, real estate agents, accountants, engineers, architects, barristers and valuers. Simon also undertook some subrogated recovery, debt collection and marine work.
From 2014, Simon practiced at the independent bar for a year before moving to Nepal. While in Nepal, Simon worked on disaster relief efforts following the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. In May 2017, Simon became a member of Southern Cross Chambers.
Simon has successfully represented clients in the Court of Appeal, High Court and District Court, as well as in the Weathertight Homes Tribunal and the Tenancy Tribunal. His areas of practice include insurance law, contractual claims and commercial litigation, franchising disputes, building and construction law, property disputes and land law, claims by and against trusts and estates, professional negligence and disciplinary matters, shareholder disputes, company and insolvency law, relationship property, employment law and criminal law.
Simon is a member of the New Zealand Law Society, the New Zealand Bar Association and the New Zealand Insurance Law Association.
